Working with youth is a great passion of mine. I want every child to be successful. I strive to help students reach their short or long term goals by being a positive role model, and supporting their efforts to achieve their goals. I am friendly, honest, and very caring. I understand that all children learn in their own unique way; therefore, my approach to each child is different. My goal is to help the students that I work with to grow and become productive citizens.
As the son of a teacher, education has always been an important part of my life. For the past 25 years I have had the pleasure of working with youth in many different capacities. I have coached, mentored, tutored and taught all ages. After receiving my teaching certificate in 1998, I spent a few years working as a substitute teacher teaching in all subject areas for all grades. In 2001 I began teaching Physical Edu ... read more

I have taught school for over thirty years, including several years as working in a Random House Reading Lab while working as a Teacher's Aide. I am a published author, have worked a few years as a highest-paid stringer for the Kodiak Mirror as their religious writer, and have taught students from kindergarten through ninth grade. Also I have substituted in high school. I can teach all subjects in primary grades, and Language Arts in higher grades.
I have been described as a shotgun teacher, tossing information both above and below level to each student, so that those overachievers may always be challenged, and those who are struggling may without embarrassment pick up missed information. I am considered quite capable in the area of discovering basic learning blocks that have been missed. I use games and fun activities whenever possible, since the human mind retains best that whi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Each of us has his or her own learning style. I prefer to parallel the student's own interests with the topic taught in order to best engage their enthusiasm and enhance their understanding of the subject I am teaching. I believe in the value of individualism and the student's unique gifts. However, how one would teach grammar is radically different from how one would teach drawing. With drawing, one teaches the method while encouraging individual creativity, maintaining a right-brained perspective; grammar and literature require a more rigorous approach since they are governed by rules and formulas, maintaing a left-brained standard. A little bit of humor greases the wheels of learning as well.
I worked for six years at William King Museum, where I developed and taught art curriculum to students Pre-K through 12 and trained instructive staff in our 12 programs. I served as a trave ... read more

I enjoy helping children master elementary skills that are the building blocks to their reading comprehension and finding ways to encourage them to read more books and to realize the significance of expressing themselves through writing. I enjoy finding the best way that each student learns (visual, auditory, or 'doing'). I also feel like I am able to help give my students self-confidence in their ability to ask questions and reach their goals.
I tutored four different children (1st-5th grade) over the course of four years for the Teton Literacy Program, a non-profit group located in Jackson, Wyoming. I met with each child after school at the facility or the local public library for hour-long sessions, working on grammar, pronunciation, and writing, focusing on each students' strengths and weaknesses and helping them catch up to their appropriate grade level as well as building the ... read more
