I have worked for two newspapers, writing human interest stories. I am not an English major. I actually teach Psychology at a community college, but have a lot of experience with creative writing and love working with young people. I have my secondary certification and have taught middle and high school. I have my BA in social science and a Master's in counseling. I have been in the field of education for twenty years. I graduated with honors from Grand Valley State University with my Bachelors in Psychology/Special Education in 1997. My areas of expertise include emotional impairments and cognitive impairments. In 2001, I graduated with a 4.0 in my Masters of Special Education Administration program. I also received my Special Education Supervisor approval certification at this time. I have taught in for 9 years in programs for students having severe emotional impairments in segregated facilities. I have a simple teaching style. I teach according to the students needs. I try to get a sense of how the student learns best and let them direct me to what they need. I teach the student to teach themselves. I have had great sucess with my approach in the past, as this is a very self-rewarding experience for the student. I have often found that students soon catch-on and then begin to excell on their own. I have used these techniques to tutor algebra, geometry, algebra II and psychology, political science, anatomy and physiology. I love to see that look in a students' eyes when they "get it!"
