My comments on tutoring Piano : Lessons and tutoring available to beginning and intermediate level students. I have a B.Mus. in Piano from Houghton College and have strong experience with classical music and limited experience with other styles of keyboard playing.

Three years of classroom teaching experience with Music Theory and Aural Skills, 4 years of tutoring in Music Theory and Aural Skills; Masters Degree. B.Mus. in Piano; experienced accompanist; taken Intermediate and Advanced Keyboard Skills at the Graduate level; taught beginning and intermediate piano lessons for two years.
I am enthusiastic about music - it is my favorite subject and I love both playing music and thinking about it. This translates into an upbeat teaching mood, with significant practical, hand-on approaches to music theory, and with interest in students' musical preferences and multiple strategies for approaching practice and learning pieces in piano lessons.

After graduating from high school as valedictorian, I earned a Zoology BS and a Studio Art BA from SUNY Oswego, successfully completing English composition, speech, visual arts, biology, zoology, chemistry, Spanish, and calculus II courses, and graduated with a 3.76 GPA. Prior, I had taken and earned over a 90% in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and AP calculus. While completing an MFA from WCSU, I began 3 years of service as a tutor with NY GEAR UP of The Research Foundation of SUNY, providing academic assistance to students, grades 9-12th in core and non-core subjects, as well as Regents, SAT, and ACT exam prep. In the last 2 years, I have taught art for levels EC-8th and created a teen development program with daily tutoring.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always wanted students to really know the material being covered. This has meant keeping their interest through jovial yet concentrated lesson planning. I have always strived to make my students feel comfortable and to take on the responsibility for their own learning. Much too often Educators show students how to answer questions rather than helping the student learn how to handle new scenarios. This is the essence of my teaching: helping students see the big picture so that they can handle any new scenario. My classroom always has many things going on at once, which is a direct result of the student driven learning and presenting.
