I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science with a minor in Accounting. I graduated from the University of Houston with a 3.8 G.P.A. in my major. I have learned to apply critical thinking via my education throughout my previous career in the hotel industry. I was a member of Toast Masters for a year and learned valuable communication skills and the ability to speak with precision and confidence. I have coached youth soccer for approximately 6 years and currently am the Full Field Program director (a volunteer position) for Harbor Soccer Club in Gig Harbor. In my career as a hotel owner/operator I was responsible for training and assisting in training of all employees for all levels.

It is my experience that an instructor delivers more learning when a student has an interest in the subject. "Inspire rather than require," has far greater efficacy in delivering information. I tend to make it fun, interesting and encourage student participation and feedback. Reward, a basic human desire, engenders craving for learning. As each individual’s qualities are unique, I try to determine if one is a visual, auditory or tactile learner. Analogies often make good teaching aids. For example, if the subject were human circulatory systems, shining a light through a leaf reveals veins similar to our own and is more apt to draw the student into the subject. When appropriate, I ask the student to teach me.

I am currently a paid tutor at Montlake Elementary School, assisting with language arts and math - at all levels. I have a secondary school teaching credential, and I taught English, reading, and ESL. As a lawyer, I have excellent writing skills especially in organization and editing. I love being in the classroom and helping students learn. When I am not in the classroom, I am a volunteer tutor (New Holly) assisting in math and reading.
