My love of mathematics and science has driven me to where I am today. I have earned a BS in chemistry and have just graduated from MSU's medical school. This has provided me with an extensive background in the basic as well as the more complex maths and sciences needed to achieve the successes I have. As an undergraduate majoring in chemistry, I was provided with many opportunities to use my abilities to help those classmates of mine who had questions or needed extra help. During the last 8 years, I have had the opportunity to tutor students in chemistry, basic mathematics, and work with elementary school afterschool program for at risk children. I love teaching children and working with children's choirs. I had some very fine education classes at Aquinas. I'm very intuitive with children. While you must objectively assess the childs level, you must also be intuitive. The teacher has to tap into the innate knowledge and then approach the method of teaching in the way that child can hear you. I am 47 and a mother of an 11 yr. old. I am patient and kind with children, but overall, what comes through is my whimsical, comical, spontaneous nature. Children take to it because I'm also intelligent as opposed to "clownish". I'm also fairly firm. They have to practice and I know how to motivate them for that. I have high standards for children.
