I tutored a fourth grader for one school year. I have also tutored at a tutoring center and worked with kindergarten children. Unfortunately I was only there for one month due to scheduling issues with my college classes. I do volunteer with the nursery and young children at my church from time to time and I have experience teaching kids from preschool all the way up to sixth grade (due to volunteering at church).
I'm fairly laid back. I try to get to know the student first and see how they do with their work on their own and of course helping them out when needed. Occasionally, I'll give my own tests to see how well their test taking skills are and how they do under pressure. First off i don't believe that a kid is dumb or doesn't know how to do anything. Children only know what we teach them. So if a child doesnt know how to do something it is a reflection on the teaching that he/she has had. I have never had a kids come to me and leave without learing more than they knew before they got to me. I believe in practice makes perfect, especially in math.
