Then, I think you need to understand the youth learning styles and to find out where they are with their knowledge and then begin from there. In my own experience, the key to learning has been to find a "critical link:" that is, to figure out an angle that makes sense to my brain. It is one thing to be exposed to a subject, and another to understand, remember and easily employ what is learned. Everybody thinks differently, so the key is to discuss and explore the topic with a student until you see that they've experienced that "aha" moment. Education has been a major focus of my life since I was in middle school and decided I wanted to be a teacher. In middle school and high school I worked one-on-one tutoring peers and younger children in all subjects.
