I have worked in the business world all of my career and now wish to use my lifelong interest in education, combined with my developed training skills and native Russian language abilities, to teach at a public or private institution. My Masters degree (see below) is an Education degree with the area of specialization of Mathematics. In high school I excelled in verbal and written Russian including literature. Since then I have continued to educate myself and I have a special interest in contemporary Russian culture. I have a passion for teaching others about Russia and her important history and culture.

I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors degree in Russian in 2010. I have spent two summers in Russia studying the language at St. Petersburg State University. Russian, quite frankly, is a difficult tongue to learn in adulthood, with its sprawling grammar system and many changing word endings; I believe that vocabulary generation and sentence construction are should be prioritized over grammar during early stages of learning so that student become active user of the language early on. I take every measure to help students feel active and empowered rather than overwhelmed by an alien hostile force; students are encouraged to be intuitive and creative with whatever vocabulary they have already internalized rather than be paralyzed by rigid adherence to the quite onerous grammar.

My teaching style for Spanish is proficiency-based, culture-based and student-centered. My college students master basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar through writing grocery lists, ordering from a menu, describing how they are feeling, and even decorating skull cookies for the Day of the Dead. On a similar note, I teach children by discovering and exploring Spanish with them. Together we decorate Day of the Dead cookies, create and label picture posters, and play games in Spanish to practice vocabulary.
