Experience Summary
I graduated from San Diego State University, with a B.A. in Social Sciences and a Biology minor (Animal Behavior), in 1995. Previously, I had served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1982-1986. During 2001-2003, I worked for Salem-Keizer School District in Oregon as a Special Programs Instructional Assistant. I worked primarily with an autistic child, but also assisted the other students in math and reading. I have excellent writing skills, and have had some materials published for pay.
Teaching Style
I am a patient and empathetic tutor. I have come to realize that there is sometimes a correlation between students having problems in school, and having problems elsewhere. Sometimes they feel the need to discuss these things. I think it's important to listen, but on the other hand, not let that take up a great deal of time. I am able to redirect and focus the students' attention, and to explain things in different ways, if they don't understand the first time.
