Learning is a lifelong process!

My very first year of teaching was at the Lehigh Valley Performing Arts High School, and I also taught for two years at Northern Lehigh High School. Currently, I am resigned and staying home, but looking to work part time. I have experience teaching grades 7-12 and working with all types of students. The classes I've taught range from Honors English to a class which targeted students struggling to gain proficiency in English related PSSA skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with students and teaching them something new. The best feeling is when someone understands a concept that they didn't before; when something "clicks" for a student, I feel as if my job as a tutor was done. A Little Bit About Me...

I received a B.S. Degree in Education with a teaching certificate in English-Communication, at the secondary level. I am also qualified to instruct younger children. My graduate work focused on elementary students.My experience with young children, was learning to identify reading disabilities, administering standardized reading tests, to assess the instructional and readiness levels of individual students. I have taught in a wide array of classroom settings and as a private tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

Studying for my MA, I held a TA and found that I had a talent for connecting with students. Although I pursued a business career, specializing in electronic payments, I tutored Math on a part-time basis because I found it rewarding especially when students who told me they "hated math" liked doing math with me and subsequently scored well on their tests. In the last 3 years I had 2 students that achieved perfect 800s on their math.
Showing substitution techniques when the student has to deal with abstract letters and symbols has been very effective. Also, stressing the importance of practice tests as well as the skill of time management is important. Critical is an open communication and a awareness and sensitivity to the students learning needs / skills.

I believe that effective communication and a supportive environment is crucial to a good teaching/learning relationship. I don't mind questions, in fact I encourage them at any time! I see learning as a 2-way street. It is the students responsibility to stop me immediately and ask questions if he/she does not understand. It is my responsibility, in response, to answer those questions and find a new way of explaining the problem so he/she does understand it. I believe a student should be able to "talk" mathematics as well as "write" it.
