From age seven, I have had a passion for teaching and public speaking. I am involved with a continuing education program that hones speaking and teaching ability. In high school, I helped to pilot and served as captain of the Speech and Debate team (National Forensics League). I also worked as a Teacher Cadet. I took four years to volunteer at an educational center after high school where I completed an advanced course in public speaking. I was a full-time volunteer minister for 15 years total, and I dedicated much time to working with troubled and at-risk youths. For a year, I volunteered with Lapsits for Literacy. I have experience teaching in English and Spanish, and I have certificates to teach English and Spanish to speakers of other languages from the highly regarded Canadian Institute of English.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my sophomore year in college, I tutored a 10th grader in geometry for two semesters. I also tutored him and one of his peers for one semester in Algebra II. I then got a job as a laboratory teaching assistant. I taught laboratories for non-biology majors for 2 years, which gave me the ability to explain the subject matter in a concise way that the students could understand. I also became proficient in making detailed lesson plans according to the curriculum suggested for each lab session. During my time as a teaching assistant, I also worked as an upper level biology tutor. I tutored majors and non-majors in Biology 103 (non majors), 110 (Biology I), and 111 (Biology II).

I prefer to teach in a classroom environment with a structure and learning standards. I can also teach in a one on one tutoring session. It is helpful to have good teaching materials and resources available. I like to have the opportunity to prepare lessons and have the ability to write lesson plans and prepare lessons. I have a proven ability to follow through with those lesson plans.
