My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I am fluent in sign language I learned in school and I also had the opportuinty to experience it hands on with a spouse who has been deaf since birth.

I am fluent in sign laguage, I am in school now, so I am not certified yet but I can teach what is and or has been taught to me. I also have a spouse that is deaf and has taught me alot as well so I have hands on experience as well. I eager to teach what I have learned , simple do to the fact that I am a strong believer that the world should show more interest in other languages than there own, I choose this because, watched how my spouse struggled to be understood when we went out. And I wanted to change the way people looked at his situation, he not disabled I look at him the way I look at the Hispanics that come here and are not understood, now there are more interpreters for them I want to do the same for our deaf community.

A Little Bit About Me...

Coming from a family of teachers, I have been involved in the educational field all of my life. I began my educational career by working in morning and after school programs. Later I continued in education by working at the nationally accredited Early Childhood Research Center teaching 2-5 year olds. While completing my master's degree I was a substitute teacher in the city of Buffalo, NY and an ESL and Spanish tutor at the university level. Once I completed my master's degree I taught Spanish for students in grades 5-12 in the inner city of Buffalo and the suburb of West Seneca, NY. After 2 years of teaching in NY I moved to Charlotte, NC where I have been teaching ESL (grades K-5). My philosphy of education is that children learn through real-world experiences and tapping into their interests will foster their educational development. Another key factor in helping students achieve academic success is assessment and observation of individual learning styles and multiple intelligences. Honing those positive features in students will inspire and motivate their learning to new levels. I believe strongly in problem-solving and hands-on learning to promote higher level thinking skills. Although new to tutoring, I have worked with children extensively and participated in peer tutoring throughout middle school and high school. I have an excellent rapport with children and young adults and my knowledge is not limited to the area of foods and nutrition.
