I enjoy teaching children. I normally have a very relaxed style, but I emphasize setting goals and completing the task at hand. I gain a great deal of personal satisfaction in helping others learn. I believe the most important attributes of a good teacher are, 1. keeping the student's best interest in mind, and 2. maintaining a positive attitude and keeping the learning process interesting for the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

One of the scary subjects in college study, organic chemistry can be intimidating if one is not taught in the right way. Numerous structures and reactions can be a daunting task to merorize and make sense of. However, organic chemistry does have a small set of rules and principles which govern the seemingly vast amount of facts. One needs to truly UNDERSTAND those and then apply them to the facts, thus largely relieves the pressure of memorization. This understanding, combined with some memorized facts, are adequate for the problem-solving in most tests. I do just the above.
Solid background in organic chemistry from a PhD program and a postdoctorate; Taught undergraduate organic chemistry as a teaching assistant from 1995 to 1999 in graduate school; Tutored college and AP organic chemistry since 2000; Taught organic chemistry in Community College as an adjunct professor ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the key to academic success is ensuring the student feels a sense of accomplishment and pride in self. My method of teaching focuses on determining the best learning style and beginning with lessons that will bring about success, and then challenging the student gradually. I try to make learning fun, while encouraging questions and an "out-of-the-box" approach to problem solving. The ultimate goal is to develop an independent and motivated learner.
I currently work as a professional science/health writer, and I have a keen grasp of literature comprehension, grammar, and composition. I have tutored students in English, math, and science. Additionally, I have volunteered as a soccer coach, Sunday school teacher, and "Hands-On Science" instructor in the classroom. I previously taught private swimming lessons and piano lessons for children.

I recently graduated from Bar Ilan University in Israel with a B.Sc. in Chemistry. The program has a strong emphasis on organic chemistry and synthesis. Throughout my schooling, I frequently tutored junior student who were struggling or needed help preparing for tests. I studied Hebrew for eight years in grade school. I continued taking advanced Hebrew Language courses in university in Israel while simultaneously attending chemistry-related lectures given exclusively in Hebrew. I have many Israeli friends with whom I converse fluently.
I believe that when students are explained the fundamentals of a given subject in a clear, concise manner, they are given the tools with which to succeed. This approach eliminates the necessity for long, tedious memorization. The subject becomes fun and enlightening.

As a student at the University of Houston I earned a scholarship each semester through the Scholar Enrichment Program. It was based off of a students academic performance each semester and it would require me to tutor other students in classes I performed well in. I tutored students in General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics. I also have a minor in history and health so I can help students with those courses as well. I also have two publications with my name on them from research I have conducted at Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
