I spent most of my college career teaching at IU Outdoor Adventures, Indiana University's outdoor recreation program. There, I gained the skills to instruct on rock climbing and backpacking. I believe that the teaching style I learned there pertains to teaching any subject. A teacher should guide the student to the answer, rather than giving it to them in an easy answer. I also worked as a Naturecrafts staff member at Camp Barney Medintz in Cleveland, GA. At CBM, I taught kids ages 8 to 16 outdoor skills and guided backpacking trips. From January 2006 through August 2008, I worked part-time as a freshman composition instructor, writing lab tutor, and teaching assistant for the English department at UNT. I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the most, and I ended up getting so much more out of the course.
