I received my Bachelor's Degree in music from the University of Connecticut. While partaking in this course, I took a variety of courses relating to music including music theory, music history, and applied studies (lessons) on my instrument, which was trombone. After graduating from college, I served in Americorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) for two years. Americorps NCCC is a community service organization for young adults between the ages of 18 and 24. The projects that Corps members do fall into the categories of environmental stewardship, education, disaster relief, and infrastructure improvement. I served as a Corps member in the southwestern region of the United States. As an undergraduate, my focus for studies in English were both Critical Literary Analysis and Creative Writing. Analytical writing was stressed heavily, giving me the ability to interpret a text based on intrinsic value. The creative tract allowed me to experiment with my own abilities while keeping in mind strategies implemented by others I have read and studied. A requirement for all English majors at the university was to have intermediate skills in a foreign language. I have taken four semesters of Spanish at the college level with additional language labs. Spanish was also my foreign language of choice throughout secondary school and I have had first hand practice from my work in Guatemala.

As an undergraduate I worked at the mathematics tutor lab in our department. As a PhD student I both taught and assisted in the teaching of mathematics courses at the university level. Also I have experience with privately tutoring elementary, jr. high and high school students.
I help point to the truth, aiding the student in discovery. I try to avoid being overly didactic, and prefer to work by asking questions. The most satisfying thing about teaching is being able to witness and participate in the process of comprehension.

I have tutored people since third grade, and have recently graduated with my masters in business administration with honors. As consistently as I have tutored, I have also excelled in an academic atmosphere and would love to share my knowledge of test taking skills and subject knowledge. I have had a wide focus throughout my experiences, with emphasis on statistics, essay writing, and business theory, and I have also done university research on neurophysics modeling and emotional intelligence. Because I am looking to keep my teaching skills current to eventually gain a tenured professorship, I would love to tutor you.
Previous students have often remarked on my practical teaching style, relying on real world examples and explanations for business and mathematics. The only way to remember information long term is to relate it to something tangible, especially in subjects like st ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so.
I like to get to the point of certain problems, such as reading the child/student when I see them, ask them some questions about the subjects they need help in and why they need help. I have worked with Infants-School age for over 5 years, and enjoy being there to help someone in need. I believe in giving back, because so many of us are blessed already.

As a valued member of the ANA faculty and team I continually worked to lift the standards and proficiency of all the students that I taught both directly and indirectly to prepare them for the rigors of high school and college. As the English Department Chair I mentored and provided leadership to the staff I supervised as well as my fellow colleagues. I earned a BS in Education as well as a Certification in TESL. During my many years of teaching I have mentored and tutored students in English, History, ESL and Study Skills (which focused on time management, organization, note taking and test taking skills as well as building self-esteem.) I have an extensive background in volunteering and in promoting anti-bullying programs.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire where I taught a total of eight courses including vector calculus (calculus III) and electromagnetics. Overall, my students evaluated my teaching at 4.6 out of 5 through the fall 2009 semester.
I believe that my strengths include attention to detail, a flexible but firm teaching approach, and a genuine concern for each student's learning. When I tutor a student, it is important for me to understand what he or she needs. If the student does not know, I help figure it out. Once we discover what is needed, I encourage the student to look for strategic, organized ways of fulfilling that need. Some students need help reading a text closely to uncover meaning so they can develop an essay with solid evidence, for example. Other students struggle with SAT or MCAS writing because they are not yet familiar with the standard forms. Yet other students benefit from support in writing letters of application for various purposes. It is my goal to make sure students' writing comes out cogently and articulately.
I graduated with high honors from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and an initial license to teach at the secondary level. After receiving my diploma in June of 2010, I applied ... read more
