Experience Summary
I received my Bachelor's Degree in music from the University of Connecticut. While partaking in this course, I took a variety of courses relating to music including music theory, music history, and applied studies (lessons) on my instrument, which was trombone. After graduating from college, I served in Americorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) for two years. Americorps NCCC is a community service organization for young adults between the ages of 18 and 24. The projects that Corps members do fall into the categories of environmental stewardship, education, disaster relief, and infrastructure improvement. I served as a Corps member in the southwestern region of the United States. After completing my terms in Americorps, I traveled to Peru to obtain my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate. In Peru, I participated in a 4-week-long intensive course that involved practice teaching. After receiving my TEFL certificate, I held two ESL teaching jobs in Puebla, Mexico and in Lavras, Brazil. Both of these experiences were incredible opportunities for me to learn a great deal about teaching and to travel around the world. I also learned a lot about how to speak to people in a way that they could understand me.
Teaching Style
I believe in a hands-on approach to teaching and learning. I strongly believe that it is important for the learner to be engaged in the material being taught so that they can be inspired to perform at the best of their abilities. I will try to avoid utilizing the busy work that one might find in a classroom setting.
My Hobbies
My hobbies include nature, traveling, outdoor activities, and music. I am very talented musically and enjoy playing trombone, guitar, and piano. I enjoy listening to a variety of different types of music. The outdoor activities I enjoy include hiking, biking, running, and skiing.
