I love being with children and working with them. It thrills me when I see the “light” click on. I know that given the opportunity, resources, and guidance every child can learn. I want to be a part of providing that for children. I also know that working in small group or one on one provides children a better opportunity of learning. I also believe that there are many learning styles instruction should meet the individual child’s learning style. My goal is to reach each child where he/she is and help them to grow in knowledge and ability. I work to help them reach their full potential and to become life long learners.
Before obtaining my bachelor’s degree, I taught a four-year old preschool class. While I was working on my degree I volunteered as a tutor for the local elementary school. I have been trained through the Alabama Reading Initiative(ARI) and recertified with (ARI). I ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have always loved to work with children. My job while in college was teaching children at a learning center. I also have tutored several children throughout the years that were having difficulties in either math or English. I have a strong background in math and English, but also have experience in psychology, sociology, and science. I believe a child can achieve whatever they put their mind to, but some times they need a little push to achieve that. There is no need to get frustrated with a child during a learning process because they are during their best and it is our jobs as adults to guide them in the right direction.
As a college graduate, I desire to constantly succeed at my efforts on a daily basis. I earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Social Counseling and BS in Behavioral Management, which has lead me into the helping profession. I also possess an AA degree in juvenile ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
