Ready to love learning

I currently work as a substitute teacher at Riverside Military Academy. I've worked with elementary children and teenagers extensively. My most recent position serves twenty and thirty somethings in their personal and spiritual formation. I have published my writing, acted on stage, spoken before thousands and mentored dozens. My personal intent is to explore life, discover new things, tackle hard challenges and inspire others to do the same. I believe in the value of the individual and don't believe one-size-fits-all.
Adaptive. I have a background in experiential education and believe that the method is not as important as the end result of having assimilated, understood, and taught back the information. I believe in creative learning techniques and hope to inspire a love of learning alongside the discipline of learning itself.

A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching, whether it is children in church classes, those studying for high school, or executives in training, relies very much on meticulous preparation and personalization to those learning. I'm extremely patient, can very quickly put people at ease. This makes for more effective learning. My style of teaching, rather than overtly teaching students new things, builds on what they already know, and applying it to different situations. Learning is by stealth, to those who normally struggle in the classroom, and still challenging to those who may be stronger on a given subject. I use positive motivation with my students, explaining how subject matter being covered should relate to them and their future successes. I try to link the subjects with current events and how lack of knowledge on specific subjects can cost them either financially or impact their health and well being. For example, when I encounter a senior who is not participating in class, I give them an employment application to fill out, explaining if they have difficulty completing it, they better join the class.

A Little Bit About Me...

I get to know the children first then get them involved in the assingment with eagerness and excitement. Then the children are to go and show off their knowledge. That way they will know it much better than before. The knowlege is input into the student's brain, and then I have them output the knowledge; therefore it is being repeated, and instilled more and more into their brain everytime. I love to see children eager to learn, and even better try. I push the students who are struggling so that they will not get stepped on. I motivate them, and have them motivate theirselves and others around them. I give the students materials that they already know, and then start building from there.
