I believe all children want to learn. Sometimes it takes some work to find the spark that ignites the learning process. Unfortunately, a larger classroom may not be the best environment to find that spark in some kids. I find that a lot of students learn well when they are shown the information or how to do something, are lead through a process and then proceed to "teach" the process or information back to me.
