A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring for the past 10 years before and after school both privately and group settings. I am a public school teacher now and would like to tutor after school for the 2013-2014 school year. I usually get a student in first grade and the student keeps working with me until third or fourth grade. I use a hands on approach and am especially good with LD and Add students. A Little Bit About Me...

The chance to tutor peers in high school was the initial spark towards considering education as a career. During my undergraduate studies the desire has grown as I was given the opportunity in the role of Teaching Assistant. I found from those experiences that I have an ability to gauge a student’s comprehension of the material during sessions. This allows me to make adjustments on-the-fly and in the process become more effective in accomplishing the objective. My ability to break things down to a level where students can understand more thoroughly has always been a string point for me. This coupled with my ability to develop a strong rapport with students has produced a positive result. I have large amounts of energy and enthusiasm that children gravitate to. On the recent term assessment for Charlottesville City Schools my children scored an 86% average. My experiences have spanned all ages and types of children's learning abilities. From a church setting, to a public school to a driver training car. As a substitute teacher, I worked on developing a good rapport with the students. And was always willing to assist them in working towards understanding the concepts before them. After watching a documentary on teachers teaching in the inner city, I decided to switch my major from Pre-Law to Elementary Education. I've always loved learning and I wanted to be able to convey that same message to my students. In college, I majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Psy. of the Exceptional Child. This minor allowed me to study children who are gifted and children with special needs. I am currently working on a Masters in Special Education because I've learned an extensive amount of knowledge on this subject working for the Early Intervention program in my area.
