A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored many friends and family throughout highschool and college and my teaching methods have spoke for themselves. I like to teach at that learners pace and let them start what they are good at and develop their knowledge from there. I am very active in answering questions and like to be a visual teacher since I am a visual person. I like to take a step by step approach to math and accounting because that is the easiest way to learn. Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe that I can become a better teacher only by continually challenging myself and my students. The key phrase “engaging students” seems less than what is required in the classroom. I want my students to be engaged but I want them to encompass and enjoy what they are doing as well. I love technology and new method topics; I have a very strong math and science background as well as excellent written and verbal presentation skills. I was let go from a local company earlier this year. I have decided to make a career change and my goal is to teach math at the high school level. I have a year of college to be certified. I'm a full student at CCC, and will take the Pedagogy requirements at Elmira College. I intend to tutor and substitute teach this winter and spring during college. In industry, I was a Mechanical Engineer and spent time in management. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a MBA. I spent ten years in the Army and National Guard. In pursuing my accounting degree I found that I have an extraordinary passion for accounting. I worked hard to achieve my BS in Accounting during my four years at Daemen College. I have extensive skills in financial accounting, managerial accounting, and auditing. While I was attending Daemen College, I tutored financial and managerial accounting. Teaching young people and seeing them succeed is such a reward. Many students find the conventional school setting difficult and work with greater success in a one on one setting. Getting to know the student and his or her learning style along with some background enables a tutor to create an atmosphere where the student will be most successful. The student can feel comfortable asking questions, which is not always the case in a traditional classroom. My goal as a tutor is to have a student comfortable and successful!
