A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching very much. I think a strength trying to use a student's active content or prior knowledge to connect to material. My attempts are always to make the student feel empowered by the education process. If you can connect to way what they are into, either cartoons, hip-hop, popular culture, with conservative humor, then sometimes you can gain their understanding much quicker. In math I try to use a very simple, step by step process and continue until they "Get it!"

Currently I am the three to five year old Sunday school teacher for my church. I enjoy this age group because they surprise me every time with their knowledge and insight. They are an enthusiastic group who want to learn and share what they know. In the past I worked as a high school history teacher, I tutored another student in US History in high school, and in 7th grade I tutored elementary school students in reading and vocabulary.

As a Business Education teacher in the classroom, I also have experience with home based instruction for special education and working with at-risk middle school students in an after school program. I have taught four years in middle school; this school term (2010-2011), I will be teaching part time high school computer education in the mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and will be available afternoons. Although Business Education is my certification, I have experience teaching Mathematics, ELA, Science, Reading, and Art in the home and after school.
