Learning's only effective if it's fun.

Thanks for reading my profile. I have tutored French and Spanish at my community college. I have conducted "baby groups" for children 6 mo. - 1 yr in a multi-lingual center for children where I worked in Moscow for three years. I have taught groups of adults English as a Second Language at Inlingua language school in DC. I have taught middle school Russian and Critical Thinking, and college first year Russian while in graduate school. I have worked with children ages 4-10 one-on-one in their homes on a freelance basis, during which time I managed multiple clients and did this full time for an incredibly satisfying profession. For as long as I can remember, I have been a natural teacher. My children say that I can never take them on an outing without making a "school" trip out of it. I love learning, and desire to share that excitement with others, to see them become life-long learners. I believe that all children can learn, although in different ways. Teaching young people and seeing them succeed is such a reward. Many students find the conventional school setting difficult and work with greater success in a one on one setting. Getting to know the student and his or her learning style along with some background enables a tutor to create an atmosphere where the student will be most successful. The student can feel comfortable asking questions, which is not always the case in a traditional classroom. My goal as a tutor is to have a student comfortable and successful!

I believe the key to teaching at the elementary level is developing a love of learning in the student. A student will simply go through the motions if they are not invested in the subject. I do this in the classroom by sharing my own love of science, books and reading.
