I think it is more important to understand the student than to understand the material. Don't get me wrong - as a teacher I always re-educate myself to the material if need be - but I feel my real strength as an educator lies in finding a new way to teach the same concept. If a student is failing to learn, it is less often the material itself and more often the way it is being presented. Finding a new way is something I have practiced in school and at BOCES, and is my greatest strength as a teacher.

I enjoy teaching children of all ages. I believe that a good teacher is one that can reach any child regardless of how that specific student learns best. One thing that I have found that works best is finding out the many interests of a student and then using those interests to engage the child. Once a child is engaged in the material, teaching is the easy part. I believe modeling is one of the key aspects in order for a child to be successful.
