Graduate student looking to help students achieve their goals!

I think teaching styles should differ based on the preferred learning style of the student. The teaching style should play on the strengths and preferences of that particular student. That being said, I foster a student-centered approach to learning. This approach encourages the student play an equal, active role in the learning process, rather than a passive role. A cooperative approach is important so the student can feel like he or she is an active and capable participant in learning the material. I also believe in leading by example and allowing the student to use me as a resource for reviewing their work.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an English major I have always enjoyed and excelled in the field. I was top of my class in high school. I also aided in the kindergarten class. I changed my major in college because I knew English was my calling. I have a Bachelor's degree from Warner Pacific. I enjoyed my classes and did extremely well. I aided at Clackamas High for a while, where I enjoyed the one on one with the students. In my current job I have trained and taught many associates. A Little Bit About Me...

My love of reading and writing has led me to excel in 2 languages. An English major at Carleton College, I mastered the art of putting thoughts on paper to persuade, compare, or explicate; as well as how to read for meaning. Later at the Sorbonne in Paris, I transferred these talents to French. I have since taught and tutored reading, writing, and speaking in both languages in the U.S. and abroad.
My teaching style is active and enthusiastic. I show students clues and shortcuts in all sorts of subjects so that learning can be fun and even easy. My teaching philosophy is first to have the knowledge for the subjects. Then, I think you need to understand the youth learning styles and to find out where they are with their knowledge and then begin from there. Certainly some refreshing maybe necessary, but most of the time the youth is behind so the teaching would focus on helping them reach their potential and moving forward.
During the summers of college I was trained in Project Read and organizational skills. I then tutored youth from grade school to high school in math and science from grade school math to algebra and geometry the same for science.
