I am an independent financial consultant, and I have three children. Consequently I've been tutoring many years for my children and have experience teaching math from first grade to high school. Two sons already grew up and are in college. Both are successful examples of my tutoring. The youngest son is in the 8th grade now. Throughout the experience of teaching them I learned the patience and example methods that can be universally applicable. I myself studied math in the undergraduate and studied business in the graduate school. Let me help your child be my next success story!

A Little Bit About Me...

While in college, I tutored for the AMP/Cstep program in New Paltz. I worked there for 3 semesters tutoring any subject up to calculus 2. After college, I worked for an SAT preparation service teaching the math sections. Additionally, I have been tutoring students in math privately since graduation.
I love math, so I try to convey my love for math on the student. I like to explain things in terms of what they understand and build upon it into the new material that they are working on. I am patient and willing to spend as much time as needed till the information is understood. I make effective use of diagrams and charts to help visualize what students are actually calculating. This helps as a check to see if their work is correct. I try to lean towards understanding over memorization wherever possible.

Teaching style? I tend towards an extrinsic, formal, and authoritative style. That said, I'm pretty easy to get along with, quite patient, and kinda fun. And 'formal' doesn't have to mean rigid. I will work hard to adjust and refine lesson plans to enable success in your area of study.
I currently attend graduate school at Stony Brook where I'm working towards a Master of Public Health degree. I have undergraduate degrees in Physical Therapy and Biomathematics. I am excellent with standardized test preparation, never having placed less than the 90th percentile in any standardized test. I have never been a formal tutor. Yet, essentially, I have been tutoring and aiding peers and family members since elementary school. Additionally, I have served as a Big Brother for Long Island Big Brothers Big Sisters.

A Little Bit About Me...

Friends and colleagues often tell me that I should have been a teacher instead of an entrepreneur based on my clarity of expression and passion for instructing. I instinctively augment my spoken word with drawings, gestures or other “reference systems” to help learners grasp the necessary background and repeat processes on their own. I prefer incremental check-ins to make sure students understand intermediate steps and apply theoretical concepts to real life situations whenever possible. Most of all, I have boundless enthusiasm for these topics which further engages my students in the process of learning.
Though my educational background tells of a ‘numbers’ background (economics, MBA), I consider myself a strong communicator and leader, too. I was fortunate to attend a leading high school, which gave me the foundations to excel at Colby College (undergraduate, magna cum laude) ... read more

I worked as a resident assistant while I was in college and tutored several students in math. I am especially competent in the subject as I have received a minor mathematics. I've also have had the experience of providing to some of my colleges while I studied to become and engineer.
My teaching style is rooted in several things. Firstly, I strongly believe in breaking down concepts and ideas such that they are easily digestible. This not only makes things easier to comprehend but also can give the student a different perspective on a topic and lead them to understanding. Secondly, I feel that a positive attitude helps with no matter what you do, especially when teaching. A great attitude can rub off on at pupil and help them build confidence, something that is key in becoming successful in anything, let alone academics. Finally, I believe that the mind is much like muscle a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a student and Brown University studying in mathematical finance looking to graduate with honors. At school I have excelled in mathmatics and economics classes. I was hired by the school to become a tutor and help my fellow classmates out. I help with any introductory math or econ class. My tutees say that it has helped them very much and their grades and understanding of the subjects have dramatically improved.
My goal as a tutor is to help my tutee understand the concepts fully. As I start to teach them I can analyze how they learn and the best way to help them learn the material. I am patient but I will push my tutees to make sure they are reaching their full potential. I believe that everyone can be excel at a subject they just need to be presented it the right way.

I am a patient teacher, and I use many different ways of communication. I try to find the style of learning best suited to my pupil. Removing the fear of the subject seems to be the most important part. I go through many many examples, until I feel that the student, and more importantly, the student has a feeling of confidence and mastery.
I have taken math for 4 years in college. It is a subject that I very much enjoy-so much that all of my sons are also strong in mathematics. My oldest is a national merit scholar finalist, and my youngest son is captain of his high school math team. Math is fun, like a puzzle-once the student sees this fact, they begin having more fun and less fear of the subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I do not like doing classroom teaching. I do love to do one-on-one and small-group tutoring in math and statistics. I like to share my enthusiasm for life in general and for math and statistics in particular. I enjoy being an advocate for the students in their dealings with the professors.
During the most recent 14 years I have been enjoying tutoring in math and statistics at the Community College level. Earlier, I worked for 3 decades leading actuarial students at two insurance companies, solving mathematical problems and doing actuarial research. I worked for 1 year in a U.S. Army Secret Services Unit in Trieste.

When I was a high school kid, I finished the highest math class during grade 11. Since I was so good at mathematics, my teachers suggested me to tutor my classmates in math and science. Later, my study in the University of Connecticut has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science, especially mathematics. During my college life I have also tutored students in mathematics, and physics.
Since my parents were both teachers,to be a math teacher is my dream all the time. Although I have earned one bachelor degree in accounting, I still hope I can be an excellent teacher someday. I love teaching and working with all children and I believe all children can meet their goals if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning methods. When I taught sailing to young kids, I used to dress up like a pirate. I have lots of energy. I know I'm doing my job right when kids start laughing. When I taught to teenagers, I kept in mind my own experiences at that age. If I'm helping a student study hard on that big, important test that might have the ability to crush the student's soul - I bust out my acoustic guitar and sing about how It's The End of The World As We Know It (And This Test Means Very Little In The Long Run).
I recently graduated cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with two Bachelors of Science in Marine Geology and Maritime Law. I teach sailing and environmental education in the summers. This means very little however as I aspire, one day, to become a lighthouse keeper. Sadly, few can find such a position these days. I enjoy writing, science, mathematics, literature and most all musi ... read more

I believe in ensuring anyone I am teaching understands the concepts behind what they are learning. It is important that the student is able to identify with the material and be able to relate it to relevant information. I think it is important for a student to learn in an environment where they are not afraid to ask questions in order to develop their own skills.
As a graduate of an Ivy League University with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, I have a strong passion for the analysis and development of mathematical equations. I am an extremely patient person and am eager to share my knowledge with others. I would like to be able to offer students of this day skills and mentoring that were not offered to me when I was developing my own skills.
