My comments on tutoring Algebra III : Completed over 12hrs college coursework in algebra alone

I've either taught or tutored in some form or fashion for over 17yrs now. I've had ages 3yrs to 22yrs old covering all manner of subjects and hobbies. One of my most rewarding experience was with an 18 year old special needs 10th grader ready to drop out of school. We met 2-3x a week for 6mths. In that time he raised his GPA from 1.2 to 2.7. He completed his 10th grade year and went on to take and pass the G.E.D. the following year.
I would describe my teaching style as dynamic, creative student-centered

Go ahead, Math my day. :)

Relevant.
For the 2011-2012 school year, I was a math tutor for Charles E. Nash Elementary school in Ft. worth/TX. In the evening and on weekend, I also tutor students in grade level ranging from 4th graders to college students. The most effective methods for teaching math to any students level is to make it relevant, connect math content to every days' life. The basic foundation math skill is add/subtract/multiply/and divide and this essential skill must be mastered by the time you complete your 5th grade level. If this skill is not mastered, students will fall behind as he/she move on to the next grade level. During this period, these students are not motivated and you'll commonly hear them say things like, "I'm not good at math; ... read more
