A Little Bit About Me...

I actually don't have much experience as a tutor beyond helping classmates study, however throughout my experience in high school I've experimented with and adopted many avant-garde and unorthodox studying techniques and thought processes that have served gratuitously to my benefit, and I'm positive will serve yours as well.
I'm currently a senior attending Winter Park High School. I have a slew of education and extracurricular related accolades, and have been commended highly for my skills in writing (both creative and professional). My transcript has a long history of Advanced Placement courses and my standardized exam scores are impressive to say the least least (30 ACT, 1800 SAT, multiple AP Exam credits).

More About This Tutor...

I love teaching and I am great at it. I believe that anyone can learn anything if the information is presented in a certain matter. I have used soccer to teach math, pool to teach geometery, current event to teach history. I like to use a hands-on approach to learning. Students need to see, hear, and write information to remember it long term. They also need to understand why and believe it is important information to learn.
As a Social Science teacher, I have worked with middle school and high school students. I currently teach reading at Daytona State College in the Adult Education Department. I have tutored students in the fields of social science, math, language arts, English, and job interview skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been of the opinion that a teachers' job is to inspire students and assist them in becoming the best they can be in life. I am patient and have an innate ability to know what a student needs to learn and how they learn.I believe in a combination of structure, enjoyment and imagination while learning. Students have personally thanked me for what I taught them.

More About This Tutor...

I began tutoring math for Stetson University which ranged from Algebra 1 to Calculus 2. I then began tutoring privately and I have tutored lower level math and advanced statistics. I have tutored a student who was failing calculus in class but then they earned the highest possible grade on the standardized test. I also have a degree in mathematics.
My teaching style involves a lot of examples and having the student answer the questions on the board. I am able to come up with examples off the top of my head and have the student work through the problem to prevent "dumb" mistakes (such as forgetting a minus sign). I am very patient and allow my students as much time as possible and encourage them to ask whenever they are stuck. I try to show that math can be fun and interesting and that there are applications out in the real world.

I have a diverse background in teaching/tutoring. I have been a high school English teacher and a substitute teacher. Also, I have tutored for agencies as well as independently. The subjects I have tutored include English, composition, mathematics, geometry, and SAT preparation.
I like to use the Socratic style of teaching combined with using examples from historical and current events to convey an idea. I like for students to comprehend an idea through their own effort, guided by relevant questions from me. Finally, I want to instill in students a natural love of learning and curiosity about the world that they live in.

In 2001 I graduated from Coastal Carolina University with two bachelor degrees, BS in Marine Science and BS in Environmental Science. Both of these degrees required extensive studies in both math and science. While in college I tutored fellow students in science, math and English. I believe you learn more if you are involved in the process. Being the oldest of five children has given me the skills to be a great tutor. A Little Bit About Me...

I am just as comfortable tutoring students in math and science as in reading and writing. As a secondary school student, I received a number of top science honors, such as first place honors in several state science fairs and being named a semi-finalist in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search. Since high school, my interests have leaned more to the arts and writing. I graduated with a BA with distinction in Art History from Yale University and a PhD in the same subject from the University of Manchester, UK. Overall, I have ten years of experience helping students sharpen their skills in reading and writing and tutoring students in subjects as diverse as drama, art history, general/advanced math and science, and English.
