A Little Bit About Me...

I am finishing up my Bachelors degree in Dietetics at SUNY Oneonta- I will be graduated in December. I have been offered positions as a chemistry tutor but denied because of my other jobs. I was a student mentor for a year in high school to students that were "slacking" or wasn't understanding one or more of their classes. I worked at Albany ARC and worked to train young adults and adults in the kitchen- which also included basic skills such as counting and reading.
I really would like to help make a difference in someone's life and help them understand academics just like myself. When I try to teach someone, I always explain to them the subject as basic and simple as possible. I give a few examples, and then help them figure it out themselves. When/ if they struggle, I will be there to help set them back on track.

I find each experience in teaching to be different. The two girls that I tutored were both unique in personality and learning style. I find that identifying what needs the child has is the key to helping them learn. Also- figuring out what they like to learn and what they dislike is important. Although the ‘dislikes’ may be necessary, when they are identified, you can reward the student who completes them with an activity they enjoy. I understand that language does not come easily to everyone and that patience and perseverance pay off.
