Knowing students as people is extremely important when teaching as it allows for a teacher to choose methods that work best for the individual student (learning styles and multiple intelligences come in to play here). Students should feel both safe and comfortable in their learning environment so that they may reap the most benefits from education. I did a 4 year program to get a certificate in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I also have been substitute teaching for Waterville Public Schools for a year and a half. I have a strong mathematics background since my concentration was in mathematics. I tutored my cousin when he was taking college algebra.
