I am a higher education professional who has come to believe that the best way to impact students is to return to teaching. I have a long-standing interest in the philosophy of teaching. I am particularly impressed by "deep learning," a movement that emphasizes critical thinking and inquiry at all levels of teaching. I also believe in high expectations combined with a strong support system, and a common sense approach to the subject matter. From May 2007 to August 2010, I attended Emporia State University where I worked on a dual-bachelor’s degree program in physics and engineering. In August 2010, I transferred to Kansas State University to complete the program. During my last year at Emporia State University, I worked in the Brighton Laboratory, tutoring students in a variety of math courses ranging from Beginning Algebra to Calculus I. In May 2011, I graduated from Emporia State with a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. As a Mechanical Engineering student I have learned a broad amount of knowledge from physics, math, to technical writing. My math and physic levels are high enough for very complex technical problems. I like starting with the given information and stepping through the processes to solve a problem. Reminding them of, or even showing them, the rules, properties, and examples in the book. I normally try to find the method that best works with each pupil, then highlight on that. I also make sure not to do the work for the student. I will sometimes come up with a similar problem to work through so they can see what's really going on within the problem.
I have tutored Algebra through Calculus I and Elementary Statistics for the last three years. 1.5 years at both Wichita State University and Washburn University. I'm currently working on a second Bachelors degree in mathematics, but this time with an emphasis in Actuarial Science. This mixes calculus, algebra, and statistics, along with some business classes, into one, keeping them fresh in my mind.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught many different classes of Mathematics, some were individualized. I am patient, have a good sense of humor, and try to be kind to all people I work with and teach academic material to. I try to teach Mathematics in the best way for each student to learn the most from the instruction.
I have taught General Math in Junior High, Algebra and Geometry in Junior High and High School, Introduction to Mathematics, and three different Algebra courses in Junior College.
