A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching method is to use the principle approach. Each academic subject has foundational principles that make up that subject’s core. To master a subject, a student must understand these principles and then see them expand as the student progresses through a subject. I believe students can be taught problem-solving skills, organizational skills and character-building principles through every subject. Teaching is a gift that I have been given and I want to continue using it to make a difference in my students.
For thirty-seven years I have been involved in education. Thirty-three of those years has been as a principal/teacher in private multi-grade classrooms. I graduated in 2009 with a B.A. in English Education. I have taken 60 credits of English, and I am qualified to teach all levels and areas of English. I recently student taught for English/Reading 6, and English 7, 9, 11 and English 11 advanced. I am also subbing in every area and grade level. I have written many extensive research, literary analysis, and creative writing pieces, so I am able to help with brainstorming ideas, construction of a paper, and grammar. I have applied for a Wisconsin and Colorado teaching license, and I should be receiving them in the next two months. In addition, I have tutored English Language Learners for 2 years. I have also tutored Freshmen Writing, political science, and history courses.

Phonics and phonemic awareness are comingled when teaching children in this manner. Phonics involves the relationship between sounds and written symbols, whereas phonemic awareness involves sounds in spoken words. Therefore, phonics instruction focuses on teaching sound-spelling relationships and is associated with print. Most phonemic awareness tasks are oral. Even though parents are the initial teachers, it will take a professional to instill all of the rules of phonics and to teach students decoding skills as they begin to read.
