I enjoy working with youth and take pride in assisting them with confidence building as well as real life applications for learning and adjusting. I realize and understand there are different learning styles and try to apply the best teaching style for the maximum benefit of the person I am assisting. It is my experience that an instructor delivers more learning when a student has an interest in the subject. "Inspire rather than require," has far greater efficacy in delivering information. I tend to make it fun, interesting and encourage student participation and feedback. Reward, a basic human desire, engenders craving for learning. As each individual’s qualities are unique, I try to determine if one is a visual, auditory or tactile learner. Analogies often make good teaching aids. For example, if the subject were human circulatory systems, shining a light through a leaf reveals veins similar to our own and is more apt to draw the student into the subject. If session doesn't find a promising beginning, start from a base and progress with them. Interaction prevents or indicates "going too fast" or overwhelming them--"the eyes" are engaged or indicate "shut-down". Making the math or education "mean something" provides a reason for learning or further developing the concepts. Encouragement and sincere compliments are very important.
