My comments on tutoring Literature : Having been interested in books all my life, I have experience seeing beyond the writing in literature to pick out the themes and motifs. I usually explain a problem verbally first, then demonstrate how it is solved before working on the student's ability to complete the task on his/her own. I find using contrasts effective since showing how things differ in their purpose, form or origin is often half the battle in understanding a lesson. This also helps a student understand and remember formulas.
