I taught for 32.5 years at Northwest Community Schools. Subjects taught Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, Sixth Grade all subjects. Seventh Grade and Eighth Grade Science and Social Studies. Middle School Phys. Ed. 20 years Adult Ecucation. Subjects taught, American Government, U. S. History, Health Issues. I currently hold a Continuing Certificate from Mich. granted in 1978, and a Professional Certificate from Florida. I retired from Michigan Public Schools in 2006 with a pension, which includes health insurance. I then relocated in Phoenix, Arizona where I taught Fourth Grade for two years. I then moved back to Michigan where I was a substitute teacher last year. In August of this year my son and I permantly relocated to Florida.

I typically try to match my teaching style to meet the needs of the particular student(s). I am familiar with many different approaches to teach literacy and math, including some exposure to occupational therapy, emotionally impaired, and LD appoaches to meet certain needs of some students. I enjoy children and helping them reach their potential.
As a Title I Para Educator I am responsible for working with students who need extra support in core academic areas. I teach K-4 students in a small group or classroom setting and on an individual basis. I currently have a case load of about 25 students that I see twice a day. A Little Bit About Me...

I create a positive atmosphere and help students to be responsible first to themselves and then to their community. I also try to make my students aware of their potiential and guide them in processing information by first understanding the context in which it is used. Then I like to use visuals in my teaching style. I prefer to start with testing of some kind to assess the developmental level of the student.
My teaching experience began with my work with troubled youth in Michigan. I worked with the Fine Arts Team using the arts to teach visually. I also used positive Peer Culture for helping students to deal with their problems. I slso taught history at the school. I have 8 years experience; I worked for WSI teacher staffing for 3 yrs. and 5 yrs. for the Battle Creek School System in grades K-12 in most subjects

Al though I have never technically tutored or taught a child writing, I am interested in helping aid a child's learning experience. I am extremely personable and social, and would get along great with any child. I am patient, understanding and eager to provide my extensive knowledge of writing to those that need help.
As a current student at Central Michigan, I continue to strive for the best education I can possibly achieve. I have clepped out or aced all english classes at the college level and have found a great interest in writing and reading papers and essays. One of the reasons that I'm interested in tutoring is that, although I love working with individual students and small groups, I am less interested in classroom management, discipline and the rest of the duties that come along with substitute teaching. I am excellent at relating to students and absolutely can help those who are willing to learn. I also appreciate that different students learn in different ways and strongly believe that alternative methods should be explored and encouraged if it gets a student learning.
