I believe that being immersed in the language is the best way to become fluent in it. I pride myself in using the TPR approach and using the target language as much as possible.
I have 27 years of experience in high school teaching. I taught Italian 1,2,3,4 and AP in a public high school in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I also sponsored the Italian Club and took students on excursion in Italy over the years. Recently I helped start a student exchange program with a school in Sicily.

Italian is one of my top subjects! Originally from the Chicagoland area, I lived and worked in Milan, Italy for 15 years. I love the language and would love to teach it to you and/or your kids!

After graduating from Purdue University with a degree in Business Management/Marketing, I set out for Milan, Italy and immediately found work teaching English and Business English there. I taught all ages (from 6 to 60), both individual lessons within the homes of the students or at my home, or individual and group lessons within big companies. One of my biggest clients was UPS Italia where I sometimes taught for seven to eight hours a day. After doing this for seven years, I found a job within a publishing house based in Milan. I eventually became the International Sales Manager there, and I still work for this company on a freelance basis doing translations and sales. I currently work from home as a writer, translator, and tutor.
It depends on the subjects I'm teaching and the needs of the students.

My comments on tutoring Italian : I returned from Palermo, Sicily in late December, 2014. I had been there working and living since June, teaching English to Italian children and adults. I have been going to Italy since 2010 annually and absolutely adore all things Italian. Speaking Italian is like eating cake with every word.

I truly believe conversation is the best way to learn a new language. There are many people who study grammer and vocabulary on paper for years, but when they are finally put in a real situation in which they are required to speak the language, all of their training fails them because they never did the most basic and important thing, which is to practice making the sounds with your mouth, practice saying the new words, practice actually using the new grammer structures.
I have always had a strong passion for languages and perhaps because of this have done extensive traveling. I have lived in several countries and speak several languages. In my adventures I have found time and again that the easiest, most effortless and fastest way to learn a language is to immerse oneself in that culture. Why? Because it is not enough to remember that "arrivederci" translates to "goodbye." Rather, ... read more

I will adapt my teaching style to one that best suits the student.
I have had a love for the Italian language since I was 10 years old. I bought myself an Italian-English dictionary and began learning the language. In high school, I completed 4 years of Italian classes. Three of those years I was in honors classes, along with being the Italian tutor for all levels. I was chosen to be in the Italian Honors Society in my senior year. Also in that year (2008), I was awarded the medal for the Most Outstanding Italian Student, which is given to the senior with the highest GPA over four years of Italian classes. At Illinois Wesleyan University, I completed two more years of Italian study, finishing with Italian 300, the highest level offered by the University. During those two years, I was also the only Italian tutor for all levels at the University. Along with general tutoring for t ... read more

I speak multiple languages and have over 25 years of experience teaching French, English, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi and Punjabi in my own language school as well as in academic and corporate environments. My passion and my specialty is guiding students to fluency and competence in languages. I myself continue to learn new languages and culture for personal emjoyment. My degrees are a BA in ethnomusicvology from UCLA and an MA in French from Arizona State.
My tutoring style is informal. It is based on establishing good rapport, understanding my student's learning style and making the sessions as enjoyable and productive as possible. I have found that this is crucial in getting good results. Happy people learn much better than stressed and bored ones. At the same time I am very structured in helping my students to master the content they are studying. The material is ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have mostly taught university-level students but I have occasionally worked with high school students. I would like the opportunity to work with all age groups. In my opinion, students learn in many different ways so it is useful to approach difficult concepts in practical ways. I like to use visual media when teaching (films, excerpts from relevant programs, still images, powerpoint) to reiterate main points. I like to work closely with students and believe this type of communication is what allows each student to fully understand what's expected in the assignment. I believe providing a comfortable and easy going approach to tutoring so that learning is enjoyable. I am honest, patient, and nice.
I have taught university-level art history courses for the last 7 years. These courses include training in writing, presentation, and speaking in addition to their emphasis on the ... read more

Every child should have the best educational experience possible, and I want to provide that for your child. I strive to teach each student why, not just what. A complete understanding of how something works will remain with a student much longer than the knowledge that it does work. I hope that by tailoring my teaching style to the individual, I can help him or her to achieve their maximum potential in each academic area. I absolutely love the materials I teach, and if I can impart that to my students, not only will I have accomplished my goal, but also they will have gained a passion for learning that will benefit them their entire life.
Beginning my foreign language education at the age of seven instilled in me a determination to master the French language and then use it to help others. I have earned a bachelor degree in French and graduated summa cum laude in three years. ... read more
