I've always loved to read, I inhereited it from my father who got it from his father. I'm an avid writer as well. I really feel I can help youth and young adults learn to read. Currently I work with individuals who have disabilities to find and maintain work. Every one can learn. Sometimes an individual learns in their own unique style and finding that style is the key to teaching them. The best way to teach someone is to guide them when they come to a road block, rather than to give them the answer. The amount of pride and prestige that comes from having figured out a problem on their own is the most important thing.

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout high school and college, I have tutored peers and younger students in both math and physics several times, occasionally for pay. Last year I was a course assistant for a college freshman-year math course in theoretical math at Harvard University. I am enrolling in a PhD program in pure math at the University of Texas, Austin, where I will have a 16-hour-per week teaching load including three sections of undergraduate calculus. When I was a course assistant, my section scored higher on the quizzes and exams than the other sections. My passion is making mathematics accessible. After high school I was underwhelmed by mathematics. However as I took more math in college, I realized how much I had missed in high school. As I learned more mathematics, I became determined to make it my business to find and implement better methods of educating people on mathematics in a way that does not overwhelm them, but simultaneously makes their learning experience more useful. I studied teacher education as an undergraduate, and attended graduate school at Dartmouth where the program in mathematics has a specific focus on preparing one to teach mathematics.
