In all cases, an initial assessment of both the academic level and the temperament of each student are necessary before I establish a particular style. Some students are comfortable with a quieter, more formal tutor, while others are successful with a more casual, animated tutor. During my time as an graduate student, I tutored undergraduate classes in organic and math while I was a Teachers Assistant for the General Chemistry classes. I homeschool my children in math, art and science. They ask question about a subject and I give them answers to their questions. If I do not know the answer, I then teach them how to look up the answer or work it out from fundamental assumptions.
