I wanted to excite others as Chemistry had excited me. I teach the material and why it is so exciting. My style adapts to that specific student’s strengths, weaknesses and interests. I always try and connect their interests to the material, so it is more than just words and starts to be interesting. Chemistry is scary to many people, because they try to memorize, it’s too intricate remember everything. I teach the student to understand why and how substances react or behave. Knowledge of basics, allows the student to solve problems as they are given instead of memorizing specific answers. Problems must be asked from every angle so the student learns to use the basics to solve any scenario. Chemistry then becomes logical.
Although a senior about 20 credits from my BS, I know I am qualified for this job. My passion for Chemistry rubs off on those around me. With a near 4.0 GPA, I al ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have graduated with dual B.S. degrees in Education and Political Science in 1972 in Odessa, Ukraine. My teaching experience includes 28 years of teaching chemistry, physics, Russian and Ukrainian languages in my native country of Ukraine. During these years I’ve taught many students varying in age from 13 to 18 years old. I’ve taught classes of Continuing Education for certified teachers in Ukraine. As a reward I received a special qualification of: “Excellent teacher of Ukraine #28807."
Teaching is my passion. I strive to make my students feel the enthusiasm I have towards the subject. My teaching philosophy is to engage students in the study by making an abstract idea turn into something real that students might be truly interested in. I believe that students can overcome obstacles with positive reinforcement. I’d be there to help my students help themselves to become su ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My affinity for knowledge inspired me to attain my degree in Physics with an emphasis in Education. Due to my own positive learning experiences, I have a strong desire to guide others in finding their own learning paths. It is for this reason that I spent two semesters working as a physics tutor in group and private settings, three semesters working as a Supplemental Instructor for physics and chemistry, and a summer teaching mathematics at a primary school in Ghana. Furthermore, I have research experience in the field of Physics Education and am currently working on projects that emphasize how a student identifies with physics and the most effective learning strategies for conceptual understanding of physics and related sciences.
My teaching style could be labeled as Socratic in that I prefer to lead the student to discovering the answers to their own inquiries through a series ... read more

I am very passionate about the role of being a teacher and mentor. I believe that when we stop learning we stop truly being alive. As a tutor it is my job not only to teach the student, but learn from the student how best to teach him/her. I believe each student has a particular learning style that fits him/her best and it is up to me as the tutor to identify that. I am very patient and take a very positive outlook on mistakes. I believe we learn most from our mistakes, therefore I like to challenge my students. I am a very highly motivated and dedicated student, I am not satisfied with being second best and I believe I impart this demeanor onto my students.
I recently graduated from Denison University with a B.S. in Biochemistry. While at Denison I participated in several work-study jobs centered around direct interaction with other students. I worked as a TA in an Organic Chemist ... read more

I try my best to make the student figure things out on their own, by giving simple guiding questions or comments. I do not like to simply do the problems for them, as I find most people do not learn well this way. I am patient and empathetic, and I understand what it is like to approach a problem from the position of a student who is confused or unsure. I try to give them the tools to understand basic problem solving and critical thinking.
I went to school at EMU with the intention of getting a doctorate in Physics, to teach at the college level. I ended up getting a job in IT at the University, and found I enjoy this just as much. While a student, I volunteer tutored for the Society of Physics Students, and I tutor all the student employees I have when they are taking physics classes. I love teaching, and the students that I have tutored have excelled under my supervision.
