I have enjoyed a life-long love of learning and consider it my service to share this with both my own children and others. Below are listed education, experience, qualities and skills I possess. Rhonda Gatewood Bio Rhonda Gatewood, mother of four, has been homeschooling since 2003. She received her B.S. in Biology with an interdisciplinary minor in Chemistry and Mathematics from Florida State University where she went on to earn an M.B.A. in Business Administration. Prior to homeschooling, Mrs. Gatewood worked in the agricultural industry for ten years, specializing in tissue culture laboratory production. Currently, her family owns and operates an indoor ornamental horticulture nursery. Mrs. Gatewood has served as Vice President on the Board of Directors for the Florida Nurserymen and Growers Association, Committee Director for Windermere Preparatory School’s Parent Teacher Association, Science Olympiad Judge, Orange County ADDitions Volunteer for the past five years acting as the primary liaison between teacher and parents, as well as Art and Reading Adjunct Instructor (lower elementary) in parochial, charter, and public school environments for ten years. Mrs. Gatewood enjoys working with students in an enrichment capacity, serving as Girl Scout Troop Leader for six years and recently acting as an American Heritage Girl Volunteer. A native Floridian, Mrs. Gatewood’s passion is to promote awareness, understanding, and respect of our local environment. She has worked in a volunteer capacity with the Orange County Environmental Protection Division, Audubon Society, Lake Watch, Marine Discovery Center, University of Florida’s Agricultural Extension, Oakland Nature Preserve, The Sea Turtle Conservancy, and The Ocean Conservancy. She actively educates the public, conducting environmental surveys and providing valuable volunteer opportunities to area youths. To that end, the Gatewood Family has founded The Eco Adventure Club Heroes (T.E.A.C.H.), a non-profit student environmental group which studies conservation issues and serves the community. Mrs. Gatewood’s teaching style is to develop a student’s love of learning, rather than promoting rote memory. Relaxed, fun, collaborative lessons with a unit study-type engagement are her preferred methods of instruction. Included but not all-encompassing in Mrs. Gatewood’s curriculum familiarity are Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, ABeka, Apologia, and Florida Virtual School Curricula (Full time Connect Elementary Homeschool through Orange County and Part time Middle and High School levels). Familiar with Individual Education Programs (IEP’s) which demand additional enrichment or require exceptional learning accommodations, Mrs. Gatewood has educated both gifted and learning disabled students (Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and expressive/receptive language disorder). Currently, Mrs. Gatewood holds a Lower and Upper Elementary Science class at Libertas Academy.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is to develop a student’s love of learning, rather than promoting rote memory. Relaxed, fun, collaborative lessons with a unit study-type engagement are her preferred methods of instruction.
