Experience Summary
I completed my undergraduate degree from SUNY Fredonia, in Childhood Inclusive Education and Early Childhood Education, and completed my masters degree from SUNY Brockport in Literacy education (birth-6th grade). I have been a substitute teacher for the past three years and am currently a reading teacher for students in kindergarten and first grade. I have had tutoring opportunities through my undergraduate program and I have tutored privately for the past three years. I have worked with students in all grade levels from pre-k up to 7th grade on reading/writing and and math skills. As a reading teacher I have expereince with many intervention programs and strategies to assist students with decoding, word solving, fluency and comprehension skills. I was in communication with parents and teachers on a regular basis to support the students and their progress. Overall I have had with my students I have tutored privately in home and my students at school to help them achieve grade level standards.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is based on the gradual release theory, where instruction begins with me demonstrating a skill or strategy, followed by the student practicing the skill with my support, eventually leading to independent use of the skill by the student. My whole goal as a reading teacher is to provdide my students with skills and strategies to use when reading at an independent level.
