Experience Summary
I completed my BA in English at the University of Utah in two and a half years in order to begin work on my MA in English as quickly as possible. In the half year between completing my BA and beginning my MA, I was a substitute teacher in the Jordan School District in Sandy, UT. I have just finished my first year in the English MA program at Boston College where I was also a tutor at the Connors Family Learning Center. In addition to school and tutoring, I also work as a Kaplan Student Advisor at Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions where I help students with basic questions about Graduate level admissions tests and test-taking strategies. All of my experience with English, History, Composition, test preparation, and ESL has made me a qualified candidate for a variety of teaching/tutoring positions. In the fall, I plan to return to Boston College to finish my final year in the MA program while teaching Freshmen Writing Seminar as a Teaching Fellow.
Teaching Style
I really enjoy teaching because I am passionate about the things that I am teaching and like to encourage passion for learning in others. I always strive to show my students the connection between the work they do in the classroom and its connection to society and the world as a whole. I feel that encouraging such a relationship with the work makes students more willing to seek out knowledge in and out of the classroom.
