Experience Summary
I have had experience tutoring and teaching Algebra I and II from a being a teacher. I feel very comfortable with all types of math. I have worked in small and large group environments to one-on-one. From the engineering background, I have insight into real world uses for math. While working as an engineer, I taught skiing and group fitness class, two very diverse groups of people to work with. From those experiences I decided to switch career paths to math teaching. I have tutored off and on while getting the math education degree. I am ready and willing to share my math background with people. I want students to realize what a tool math can be for them every day.
Teaching Style
My style of teaching/tutoring involves one on one and small group sessions. I feel we work from using the student’s strengths to build math vocabulary, math concepts, math relationships, developing math knowledge and algorithmic skills. I want the students to feel comfortable communicating using math to get help. I strongly believe that to understand math you have to put forth effort to try and do math. I want the learning environment to be relaxed and comfortable. Depending on what type of math and the concepts that need help different tutoring techniques will be used such as: building relationship, hands-on activities, and interactive virtual manipulatives.
