Experience Summary
Throughout my undergraduate career I have worked as a tutor for different levels of education. First, I tutored a College Algebra class, then I tutored 23 different first year students in a writing class, then I tutored at a middle school in a variety of subjects. All of this experience has taught me what it means to be a good tutor. Furthermore, as a Mathematics degree holder I have a strong knowledge of Calculus. In fact, when I start my PhD program in the fall I will be teaching Calculus at the University of Kansas. I believe that I can offer any student a different approach to the material so that he or she reach a point of understanding that is desired.
Teaching Style
I believe the best style, especially for tutoring, is to practice a lot. However, what make my teaching style successful is that when a student of mine does not succeed I can go through step by step and explain where he or she went wrong. Then we try again. I also like to offer plenty of examples and try to relate the problems to something that is easier to understand. This teaching style has been very successful with students in the past. Frequently I have been thanked for finally making the material understandable and not making the student feel stupid for not getting it right away.
