Experience Summary
I taught one year of six grade in Hoxie, Kansas in 1977. After this, I entered Mennonite Voluntary Service and directed a tutoring program in Philadelphia for two years, training high school tutors, organizing the curriculum and matching students to tutors.
Following this I have had a successful career as a Buyer -- then a Senior Buyer -- for over 20 years. However, I did not leave tutoring behind. I love Microsoft Excel, MS Word, and internet search programs to facilitate my position and would often tutor fellow employees in how to create files and work MS Excel.
I loved basic Algebra in High School and have enjoyed using Algebra and my other math skills in business. I write lyrics, collaborate online with artists and help other artists by critiquing their lyrics. I would enjoy teaching English as well.
Teaching Style
I have always enjoyed teasing and using humor in teaching all ages of student. I have seen the value of basic, solid math and English skills in the market place and would add basic occupational application to any tutoring environment.
My goal in tutoring is to guide the student to gaining confidence in their skills. I have learned through critiquing lyrics online that the best way to tutor is not to rewrite but to suggest alternatives and guide my fellow writer as they rework their lyric. It is rewarding to see fellow artists stride forward in writing as their confidence and basic skills of structure, form, and clarity grow.
I would enjoy growing in tutoring children and teens, open to learning from my students and growing in techniques and knowledge as they grow.
