Experience Summary
As the eldest daughter of a teacher, it was instilled in me from a young age that I should strive to excel in my educational pursuits as well as other endeavors. Thus, I pursued the highest level of education possible, the doctorate, and also have continued to be a lifelong learner in many fields of study. Though my university degrees have been in the field of music, I have gained vast knowledge in many disciplines through my studies, travels and experience. Also, I have gained teacher certification in the field of TeSOL as a result of my interest and proficiency in English language usage and grammar.
Through several teaching assistantships and a semester sabbatical replacement, I have gained 5 years of university teaching experience. I have also taught for over 3 years as a music teacher in the public schools, as well as over 6 years as a substitute teacher in all grades and subject areas. Additionally, I have tutoring experience in the field of reading.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is simply to provide an environment that is conducive to learning – one which supports collaboration and teamwork, student-centricity, personalization, fun, and humor. I am committed to providing the highest quality education for my students.
Each individual learns differently, and I have come to accept that I can't entirely please each and every individual in the classroom (especially when I have over 200 students). I have also come to accept that not every student will "like me". As an instructor, it is my role to present information in a way so students learn. I have realized that students learn, not because they think I am "cool", but rather because the information was presented to accommodate each and every learning style. Therefore, I try to use a variety of different mediums (e.g., visual, audio, etc.) when presenting the class material.
