Experience Summary
I have earned two bachelor degrees in History and Geology. I am presently taking online courses at Western Governors University to attain my teaching certificate. Additionally, I have been a substitute teacher for grades K-8 since 2009. I've recently completed a long-term teaching assignment including preparing my own lesson plans. I have substitute taught in all types of environments including general education and special education as well as children with emotional disorders. I've served as a tutor for entry level geology courses during my undergraduate years and served as a Teaching Assistant in graduate school where I taught two environmental laboratories each semester.
Teaching Style
I firmly believe that children are able to learn and grasp concepts more easily by relating the lessons and information to their everyday lives. If the material is presented in a manner where students can recall past experiences in their lives, it is much more likely to gain their attention and interest. My substitute teaching experience has taught me that praising effort and positive reinforcement are the ways to get the best results out of the students.
