Experience Summary
I have been a substitute teacher for grades K-12 since 2001 and worked as a tutor for Siena's Higher Education Opportunity Program. As an educational consultant for 3 years, I coordinated college fairs, campus visits, and taught workshops on Writing the College Application Essay. I won several awards for my undergraduate senior thesis and was inducted into honor societies and "Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges." I have taken courses in Contemporary American Education, Educational Psychology, Language and Literacy, Developmental Psychology and Collaboration in Educational Settings. My background is exceptionally well-rounded and I am qualified to tutor in a variety of subjects, especially the social sciences and composition.
Teaching Style
I believe that all children are capable of learning, but many experience barriers that inhibit the learning process. My strategy is to identify these barriers, remove them whenever possible, or otherwise embrace them and work within the circumstances to achieve the best possible outcome. My background in counseling and psychology has proven invaluable in the classroom and in collaborating with parents and educators. I am looking into the process of becoming a certified teacher, and will strive to make a difference in your child's life, helping them become more successful and enthusiastic learners.
