I have a collaborative style of teaching. My ultimate goal is to get students to think, regardless of their age. With younger students, I tend to be much more directive so that we accomplish intended learning. With middle and high school students, I ask "Why" and "How do you know" quite often so that they learn to provide evidence for their thinking. Through a series of deliberate, well-directed, leading questions from a tutor, the student arrives at the "answer" through his or her own reasoning process, as opposed to getting the answer through a tutor spitting out information.
