As a teacher, my goal has always been to increase student achievement. I've taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade. Although my concentration has been mostly in elementary education, I am highly competent in Mathematics specifically in Algebra, English, Linguistics, Writing, History, and Reading. I've also attended the Princeton Review seminars to prepare me for the SATs and GREs; and from that experience I've also prepared my students for the state exams and how to be better test takers. Overall, I understand the dynamics of education and I'm fully aware on how I can prepare our children to successfully face those challenges.
The art of teaching is contingent upon your audience, your students. I believe that as a teacher, it is critical that I adjust and modify my teaching style to match those of my students that I am teaching. I am a firm believer that the success of our stude ... read more

I have one year experience in tutoring 4th graders in math and English, and have one year experience in tutoring elementary students in music theory and education. As a nutrition student and future dietitian, part of job includes counseling patients on nutrition and a healthy diet. This often requires translating my knowledge and education into ways that other people can easily understand and relate to.
I am patient, understanding, and trustworthy. I am a firm believer in perseverance and learning from ones mistakes in order to grow as an individual, as is portrayed by one of my favorite quotes: “Life is like photography – it takes the negatives to develop”. Due to my training and experience in school, I can quickly change my teaching and counseling methods to best fit what t ... read more

My teaching style is totally interactive. I plan each lesson before initiating it with the student. I first inform the student what will be covered in the lesson, and then question him or her to determine background knowledge and capability. At each step of the lesson, after presenting the material, I ask the student questions to determine the resultant level of understanding, and after the lesson is completed, I give a test to document the results. I keep a diary of the interactions for myself and other teachers for the future.
In addition to B.A. degrees in Mathematics and Psychology, I have experience as a Software Engineer, a Pharmacy Technician, and a Professional Musician. I have tutored children from ages 14 to 18 in English, Mathematics, History, and Music over a period of two years. I have provided them with an excellent role model for dealing with friends, teachers, ... read more

I evaluate the student and see where he/she stands and move forward in progressing their skill. Every instrument is different and difficult in its own way. I will teach the student the most productive way to practice by using the technique I learned by professors and professional musicians. For trumpet, I work on the embochure, and breathing. For violin, I evaluate the way the student holds the instrument including posture. I use a special tape to help guide with the notes which I use as training wheels, and take them down one at a time as the student progresses. The student learns at his/her pace and will vary by the amount of practice he/she puts into it.
